A 10-yr-old boy watched in horror as his pet Pit Bull was shot and killed by police, who claimed the had attacked a man unprovoked. The boy, and other witnesses, dispute this claim. They state that the boy was out walking his dog and was playing with him. The bitten man mistook the play for an attack and tried to "help" by beating the dog with a 2x4. The dog turned around and bit him. And then police shot and killed the dog.

I am not certain why the family had this dog euthanized, as he was only shot in the leg. The family claims their bull mastiff was not running loose, while police claim the dog tried to charge an officer. They show one photo, in which it is difficult to tell if the dog is loose or still on his chain.

This is a rather confusing story. A Pit Bull got loose. Police were called. A neighbor who recognized the dog was able to safely lead the dog back to his own yard, by the collar. For some reason, and this is where it is confusing, the dog was still loose and police were agitating him. Several police officers respected the dog's behavior and stepped away from the dog's territory. At some point, the dog jumped up on an officer, who then shot him in the head. The owner of the dog - and I cannot fathom this - REFUSED to put her supposedly "beloved" family pet into her own car, so police had to drive the dying dog to an animal shelter, while trying to arrange veterinary care. The dog died.

A Colorado woman is suing police for the shooting death of her dog last year. She had called police after receiving a threatening phone call. When police arrived, her German Shepherd, Ava, approached officers with a rawhide in her mouth. A Pit Bull puppy (7-mos-old) and his buddy got loose from their Menlo Park home. They were running around when they "scared" a woman, who called police. St. Louis police are not sorry about the shooting death of a family pet. The story unfolded when a deputy was sent to serve papers, despite being confronted by two loose dogs on the property. In lieu of coming back later, calling the homeowners, contacting dispatch for animal control, or AGAIN coming back later, the deputy decided to get out of his vehicle. When the larger dog, described as a Pit bull, started to approach and bark, instead of getting back into his vehicle, the deputy decides to discharge his taser three times in a matter of 14 seconds. When that fails, he decides the obvious course of action is to shoot the dog in the face. The dog runs off into the woods. The officer searches for a good, oh I dunno, fifteen minutes before leaving a note on the occupant's door NOT mentioning the fact their dog was shot. The homeowners found their dog dying and, in an equally stupid move, decided to suffocate the dog (who probably would have died anyways). And, again, St. Louis police aren't sorry about any of that!

A small dog was being walked on-leash when a neighborhood dog broke through a gate and attacked the smaller dog. The dog would not let the small dog go until police tasered him. The attacking dog ran away and was fatally shot when the dog walked towards police. The dog did not attempt to bite or harm a person but did end up killing the smaller dog.
